1. Fill out questionnaires about yourself and your child.
2. Make audio recordings of your child's tantrums over several days.
3. Provide multiple saliva samples from both you and your child.
4. Wear a wristband for four days to measure your stress levels and physical activity.
your child must typically have 3 or more tantrums per week and be able to see, hear, and move around easily.
you must be at least 18 years old, comfortable answering questions in English or Spanish, and have access to a laptop, cell phone, or tablet with a microphone and internet access.
You may not be eligible for this study if you or your child have any of the following:
health conditions that could affect cortisol levels and/or saliva production, including Type 2 Diabetes, Cushing's Syndrome, ACTH-producing pituitary adenoma, Ectopic ACTH-producing tumor, adrenal gland tumors or disease, Addison's disease or adrenal insufficiency, endocrine disorders, or mental health conditions such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or psychotic disorders
use of medications that could affect cortisol levels and/or saliva production, including hormone replacement therapy, corticosteroids or anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., cortisone, dexamethasone, prednisone), regular use of asthma medications (e.g., inhalers like albuterol or Advair)
